If your Magnilink magnetic cable isn’t charging your device, don’t worry — it’s often a small issue that can be fixed quickly. Below is a list of the most common causes and how to test or fix them yourself before contacting us.
✅ Possible Causes & How to Fix Them
1. The Magnetic Tip Is Not Fully Inserted
Even if it looks connected, the tip might not be pushed in all the way — especially with certain phone cases. This results in no power transfer or a weak connection.
What to do:
-
Remove your phone case
-
Reinsert the magnetic tip
-
Make sure it’s firmly and fully seated into the charging port
2. Dust or Debris Inside Your Device Port
Your charging port might be full of dust — it’s more common than you think.
How to clean it:
-
Use a wooden toothpick to gently remove debris
-
Or blow it out using compressed air
-
Avoid using sharp tools to prevent damage
A clean port ensures a secure and uninterrupted connection.
3. Dust or Debris on the Cable or Tip
Even a tiny amount of dirt or metal particles on the magnetic surfaces can interfere with charging.
Solution:
-
Gently clean both the cable head and magnetic tip using isopropyl alcohol (at least 70%)
-
Let everything dry completely before using
4. Make Sure You’re Using a Compatible Wall Charger
Not all chargers are created equal — and with magnetic cables, power matters more than you might think.
Due to the nature of the magnetic attachment system and, in some models, the pivoting head design, there can be a slight loss of power during transmission. This is completely normal for magnetic systems — but it means you need a powerful enough wall charger to compensate and ensure stable, fast charging.
Your wall adapter should:
-
Have a USB-C output (not USB-A)
-
Support at least 20W of output power
-
Be Power Delivery (PD) compatible
For best performance, we highly recommend using a GaN charger (Gallium Nitride), which delivers consistent, high-efficiency power in a compact format.
🔌 You can find many on Amazon, or order our official PowR GaN 65W Charger here.
⚠️ Using a low-output or outdated charger can lead to unstable or slow charging — even if the cable is working perfectly.
5. The Tip and Cable Must Match the Same Cable Family
Magnilink uses different tip configurations across ranges. Mixing tips from other models can cause charging failure.
Compatibility rules:
-
MAXX cables (5-pin) → Only work with MAXX tips
-
PRO cables (9-pin) → Only work with PRO tips
-
ULTRA cables (16-pin) → Only work with ULTRA tips
Always use the original tips that came with your cable.
6. Try Reversing the Connection Order
Some devices may have failsafe detection that blocks unfamiliar magnetic connections.
Try this workaround:
-
Attach the magnetic tip to the cable first
-
Then plug the full unit into your phone/tablet
-
If it works, restart your device
-
Then test the regular way (tip in device first, then magnetically connect)
7. LED Doesn’t Turn On
If your cable’s LED doesn’t light up, test with:
-
A different power adapter
-
A different device
-
A known working USB-C charger
This will help isolate whether the cable is getting power at all.
8. Device Doesn’t Support USB-C Power Delivery (PD)
Some devices — especially older models — are not compatible with USB-C to USB-C Power Delivery.
Solution:
Use a USB-C to USB-A adapter to disable PD. Charging speed will be slower, but the connection may become more stable.
9. Charging Is Unstable or Cuts In & Out
If your cable works intermittently:
-
You may be using a pivoting-head model (like 360 PRO or 180 ULTRA)
-
Movement or bumps can momentarily break the connection
Try:
-
Holding the cable steady while charging
-
Switching to a straight-head model (Magnilink MAXX, Magnilink PRO, Magnilink ULTRA) for better stability
